So far, the new Terraria release is superb, but I’m still in the initial surface exploration and shelter-finding stage. The core gameplay is mostly unchanged, although the smooth walking across one or one-half tile steps makes it feel a lot different. The ropes are a much better mechanism for getting around in the early game than wooden platforms, although they take a little bit of getting used to.
While the 1.1 release added a decent number of tweaks and new stuff to the early game (item enchantments, etc.), the bulk of the new material was reserved for the late game. Here, it feels almost like a total conversion mod — new material from stem to stern, even down to the basic equipment you use in the first hour.
